New fungal education tool released: ‘CARE Fungal KnowledgeBank’

A new fungal education tool has been developed jointly by the University of Manchester and Gilead Sciences Europe Ltd and released as an iPad app: CARE Fungal KnowledgeBank.

CARE is an educational initiative for clinicians, scientists and other healthcare professionals working in the field of fungal infections. It comprises training modules offering a comprehensive and logical flow through fungal diseases and their management.

Management of fungal infections is a specialised and evolving area. There have been unprecedented changes in the pattern of fungal infections and their management over the past two decades. Invasive fungal infections are increasing in incidence, particularly in patients with compromised immune systems. Advances in healthcare practices and an increasing ageing population are driving emergence of new ‘at risk’ patient populations while diagnosis, treatment and prevention are evolving to reflect these changes.

The CARE programme was created with the support of Gilead Sciences Europe Ltd who also provided funding for this educational initiative.
